Hi, everyone, I have been a cyclist around our area for many years. I generally cycle about 100 miles a week. I have been, generally, accident free in all the years I cycled - except for Monday, 21st June this year - when I ended up in hospital after hitting a "bent over" barrier in Eastham Country Park. Although I am still receiving hospital treatment for a "ripped" leg - I am still here to tell the story! This is because I was wearing, as usual, my cycle helmit when my head hit the floor with such force that it cracked my helmit. When the Paramedics slowly removed my helmit to check for head and neck damage - they were amazed to find that I didn't have any - only slight whiplash. The Doctor at the hospital said that if I had not been wearing the helmit - my least injury would have been a fractured skull - the worst - a body bag! I wasn't going fast - only 10 m p h - but I had no control on my fall to the ground. My other injury will take some time to heal - but I am still here! If I only save one life with this appeal - please wear your cycling helmit - it was the beat £34 I have ever spent! Cheers! Steve Attachments:

A broken helmet is a failed helmet. Helmets offer a very limited amount of protection in only a limited range of situations. When they do work (as much as they ever do), they tend to squash rather than split. Your skull absorbed most of the force, it is your skull which deserves the credit. See this. Chester Cycling
