The Cycle Chester Workplace Challenge
You’ve heard the arguments: employees who cycle to work are healthier, happier, more alert and more punctual. Cycle Chester is now launching a city-wide challenge to all workplaces. It is easy to take part in, binds staff together as a team, puts less strain on the car park, and gives out the right kind of genuine green PR.
The Cycle Chester Workplace Challenge is about encouraging staff to cycle to work. It is largely web-based, with participants pledging to cycle to work at least once during a two week ‘challenge period’. They are given an online blog to monitor their mileage. This also contributes to your organisation’s total mileage.
To help encourage participation we have two sets of high-value incentives/prizes. All who sign up and log their first journey receive an incentive gift, for example a set of lights which retail at £17.50. The most successful workplace in each of the five categories (related to size of workforce) wins a Raleigh folding bike for ‘pool’ use by all staff.
Larger workplaces taking part in the Challenge can benefit from free bike loan schemes, with full support. Local media interest will be enormous, and we will look out for individual success stories.
This Challenge is designed for easy participation, and maximum fun. If you wish your workplace to take part, we ask you simply to get the message out to your employees. We will supply strong incentives, and you may have other incentives of your own. Our sophisticated website will then take up the momentum.
We have designed the website to minimize the time that is required to log mileage through our online forums. We have an ambitious target of 600 participants across Chester and do hope that to you can offer support and enthusiasm for the scheme, ensuring that your employees figure well amongst this total.
Your support for this scheme can be given in many easy ways:
• Leaving flyers/posters in staff rooms/on noticeboards
• Information and link to the website via staff e-mail list and/or intranet
• Demonstrate commitment through managers/senior staff participating in the scheme
• Using the scheme as a tool to promote further cycling initiatives such as salary sacrifice bike purchase schemes, bike user groups and promotion of facilities for cyclists.
In order to activate your workplace as part of the scheme, we need to add you to our website. We can do this very simply: all we need are the following details:
• workplace name
• address
• contact name and number
• number of employees at the site
• if applicable, an electronic copy of the company logo to display on our webpage
You can contact us at ed.bikeboost@gmail.com, call 01244 973921. Your company name will appear on our website for your employees to select when they register. We will not use the information in conjunction with any other promotion or give these details to any other partner.
Once you have signed up you will be contacted by me.
We look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions at all please contact me on the details above.
Kind Regards,
Ed Padmore
